Term 1: 3.2 Business growth, 3.3 Decision-making techniques & 3.4 Influences on business decisions

Students will develop an understanding of how businesses grow and make effective decisions to support long-term success.

In Business Growth, students will explore why businesses aim to grow and the benefits this can bring, such as increased market share, profitability, and efficiency. They will also examine the challenges associated with growth, including communication difficulties and managing larger organisations. Students will consider different ways businesses expand, including organic growth and mergers or takeovers, as well as why some firms choose to remain small and competitive.

In Decision-Making Techniques, students will learn how businesses use a range of quantitative tools to support decision-making. They will develop skills in analysing data, forecasting future performance, and assessing investment opportunities. In addition, students will explore techniques used to manage risk and plan projects effectively, enabling them to interpret and evaluate business decisions in real-world contexts.

Finally, in Corporate Influences, students will examine how internal factors shape decision-making within businesses. They will explore the importance of short-term and long-term decision-making, as well as the role of evidence in improving the quality of decisions. Students will also study corporate culture, including different types of organisational culture and how culture can influence behaviour, performance, and the overall success of a business.

Two mini assessments acting as end of unit tests. Each assessment is an hour long and covers the topics learnt in each module.

Term 2: 3.4 Influences on business decisions, 3.5 Assessing competitiveness & 3.6 Managing change

Students will develop an understanding of how businesses consider wider responsibilities, measure performance, and respond to change in a competitive environment.

Building on prior learning from Influences on Business Decisions, students will explore how different stakeholder groups influence business decisions and how businesses balance the needs of shareholders with wider stakeholder interests. They will also examine ethical issues in business, including the trade-offs between profit and responsibility, and the growing importance of corporate social responsibility.

In Assessing Competitiveness, students will learn how businesses evaluate their financial and operational performance. They will develop skills in interpreting financial information and using key performance measures to assess success, alongside understanding how workforce performance impacts productivity and competitiveness.

Finally, in Managing Change, students will explore why businesses need to adapt in a dynamic environment and how change affects performance, employees, and stakeholders. They will examine how businesses manage change effectively, respond to risks, and ensure long-term success.

Mini assessments acting as end of unit tests. Each assessment is an hour long and covers the topics learnt in each module.

Students will also sit a paper 1 and half of a paper 2 A-Level paper for their mocks.

Students will be able to develop knowledge of the principles of marketing and the ability to analyse and evaluate their work. This will be applied to a business' marketing campaign

Through group work and independent practice, students will be able to work through marketing problems and apply their answers within context of a particular business. This will help them develop analytical and evaluative skills

Term 3: 4.1 Globalisation, 4.2 Global markets and business expansion & 4.3 Global marketing

Students will develop an understanding of how businesses operate in a global environment and expand into international markets.

In Globalisation and International Trade, students will explore how and why economies are becoming more interconnected. They will examine the growth of emerging economies, the role of international trade in driving business growth, and the factors that have contributed to globalisation, such as reduced trade barriers, improved technology, and increased investment flows. Students will also consider the role of protectionism and trading blocs, and how these influence businesses operating internationally.

In Global Markets and Business Expansion, students will learn why businesses expand internationally and the factors they must consider when entering new markets or locations. They will explore the benefits and challenges of global expansion, including managing risk, achieving economies of scale, and responding to competition. Students will also examine how businesses assess the attractiveness of different countries, the impact of exchange rates, and how firms maintain competitiveness on a global scale.

Finally, in Global Marketing, students will explore how businesses adapt their marketing strategies for international markets. They will examine different global marketing approaches and how businesses balance standardisation with localisation to reflect cultural differences. Students will also consider how the marketing mix is adapted for global markets, the importance of niche markets, and how cultural and social factors influence consumer behaviour and business decisions worldwide.

Students will be able to develop an understanding of the recruitment and selection process used by businesses. They will then be able to analyse and evaluate the performance of a particular business as well as their own

Create a supportive community:

As part of this assignment, students will through the use of group work and independent work be able to carry out interviews and the whole recruitment process for a business evaluating both the business and their own performance

Term 4: 4.4 Global industries and companies (multinational corporations)

Students will develop an understanding of how large global businesses operate and the impact they have on economies, society, and the environment.

In Global Industries and Companies, students will explore the role of multinational corporations (MNCs) and their influence at both a local and national level. They will examine how MNCs affect employment, investment, economic growth, and local communities, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of their global operations. Students will also consider ethical issues faced by global businesses, including working conditions, environmental impact, and responsible business practices.

In addition, students will study how governments and other stakeholders can influence and control multinational companies through regulation, pressure groups, and public opinion, particularly in an increasingly connected world.

Once all content has been taught, students will consolidate their learning by revisiting key topics and developing exam skills in preparation for their mock examinations and final A-Level assessments.
